A Second Me Fall Ideas

The start of the fall season means students go back to school, the temperature starts to drop, and leaves slowly begin to fall to the ground. Despite the telltale signs that winter is on it’s way, fall is one of our favorite seasons and there are still plenty of things to enjoy and do on the weekends! We’ve come up with a list of some of our favorite activities, enjoyable for any age.

Fall Festivals

Fall Festivals in VirginiaWe’re not the only ones that love fall, and some people have even organized festivals honoring fall. If you’re not familiar with the some of the fall festivals in Northern Virginia, check out this website. In addition to finding festivals in your area, you can also search for other fun fall activities in Virginia. A couple of the fall festivities that we found are the King Street Art Festival in Alexandria during the third weekend of September and the Fall Festival in Old Town Historic Fairfax in Fairfax during the second Saturday of October.

Pumpkin Patches

A Second Me fall ideas - pumpkin patchNothing says fall more than some pumpkins picked personally by you, your friends, or your family members. Search through fields of pumpkin patches and choose your favorite pumpkin to decorate, cook with, or even carve. A couple of pumpkin patches we found near Fairfax are Owsberry Farm in Jeffersonton, VA and Evergreen Acres farm in Nokesville, VA. With so many farms in Virginia, you’re bound to find one near your town via Google, or even the same link that we mentioned earlier.

A Second Me Fall ideas - wineryAlthough every age cannot necessarily enjoy a glass of wine at a winery, anyone can enjoy the view and atmosphere that wineries provide. Some wineries have play areas for children, allow dogs, and even have food to snack on while enjoying the fresh, crisp fall air. In Virginia we’re lucky to have plenty of wineries to choose from. Some of our favorites are Naked Mountain Winery and Vineyards in Markham, VA, Corcoran Vineyards & Cider in Waterford, VA, and 50 West Vineyards in Middleburg, VA.

A Second Me Fall Ideas - Apple OrchardAnother perk of the fall season are fresh farm picked apples. Enjoy harvest festivals and celebrations specifically organized to honor and celebrate delicious fall cuisines from local apples. Both festivals that we found are a bit of a drive, but the views that you get while traveling make it all worth it. Visit the Shenandoah Valley Apple Harvest Festival in Clearbrook, VA from September 16, 2017 to September 17, 2017. If you love apple butter, visit the Apple Butter Celebration in Shenandoah National Park in Luray, VA September 23, 2017. Both are about an hour and a half away from Fairfax, VA, but are fun for those who truly love to celebrate fall and eat all foods that are fall inspired.
